The land policy in Hong Kong has been controversial over the past few months. The Government has proposed to build 17,000 public housing units on a brown field site in Wang Chau, Yuen Long. But the plan shifted to developing green belts in the area and the number of public housing units would be reduced to 4,000 units. On the other hand, it was reported that the government intended to reclaim the land of Kitchee Centre (a football club) in Sha Tin to make way for public housing development, whereas the club had only opened since July last year. Many criticised the proposed plan for the lack of co-ordination between various departments, the deprivation of public's open space and facilities, and the waste of public resources.
