Opposition to East Lantau Metropolis
Launched: 12 October 2018
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, has ignored the public objections to the reclamation in the past few years. In this year's policy address, the " Lantau Tomorrow" vision confirms the implementation of the ‘East Lantau Metropolis’. This is a massive reclamation project creating a 1,700 hectares artificial island in between Kau Yi Chau, Hei Ling Chau and Peng Chau. The scale is known as the biggest reclamation project in Hong Kong's history and brings an irreversible impact on the future of Hong Kong. In addition, the Government needs to construct roads connecting the artificial islands to Kennedy Town, Kwai Kwai Tsing, Tuen Mun, Tung Chung and South Lantau. The entire project is estimated to cost at least HK$1 trillion.
To: Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Mrs. Carrie Lam
We oppose "Lantau Tomorrow" and call for:
The Chief Executive immediately withdrew the plan, and plan to pragmatically solve the short-term housing supply and allocation problem in Hong Kong;
The legislators are firmly opposed to the big white elephant project and the related appropriation.
